Gigabyte reveals their new U2442 series notebooks

Welcome back,
Gigabyte, the Taiwan-based company, recently made headlines by launching not one but two laptop products at the CeBIT 2012 show. You may ask what’s new about that. Well, both the laptops utilize Intel’s Ultrabook platform.

The U2442 Ultra Pro Book line consists of two different slim and light models: the U2442N and the U2442V. Both the Ultrabooks pack quite a number of interesting specs to consider.
Both the models are equipped with:
  • A 14 inch HD+ LED backlit display with a resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels. Other specifications common between the two Ultrabooks include NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M discrete graphics with 2 GB of VRAM with a choice of solid state drives (SSD) of hard drives up to a maximum of 1000 GB.
  • You get a choice between Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge Core i5 – 3320 in 17W or 24W TDP modes (2.6 GHz for the ‘mobile’ version and 1.8 GHz for the ultra-mobile version).
  • The Ultrabooks both also offer two USB 3.0 interfaces, backlit keyboards, Bluetooth 4.0 and optional Thunderbolt ultra high speed connection. Full SD card slot is also provided and an in-built Wi-Fi module should provide the necessary Wi-Fi capability.
However, the only noticeable differences are:
U2442N
  • The U2442N model adopts Intel Core i5 and i7 processors based on Ivy Bridge architecture.
  • The thickness of the thinnest part of this Ultrabook is only 18.5mm with a total weight of 1.49 kg.
U2442V
  • The U2442V doesn’t make use of the Ivy Bridge processor.
  • It also trades in the standard voltage CPUs for ULV ones while keeping the standard display the same.
No details on pricing or release date are available as of yet but they are expected to debut in the market in May.

Fujitsu's "Tegra 3 prototype mobile"

Good day my friends, as you all know that in MWC 2012, new smartphones with ultra outstanding specs were unveiled. Fujitsu, the Japan based company, managed to grab quite a bit of the spotlight by unveiling their brand new waterproof quad core prototype smart phone.

Quad core seems to be very popular this year along with Nvidia’s new 4 Plus 1 Tegra 3 system on a chip. For now, they’ve decided to call it the “quad core prototype”.
Fujitsu has outfitted the gadget with many Ultra high-end specs to create an overall impressive smartphone. The hardware configuration seems to be quite similar to other Tegra 3 phones, the cameras or displays being the only points of difference between Tegra 3 phones as of now.

Design

  • The Tegra 3 prototype sports a very classic look akin to many Android smartphones.
  • Sports a 4.6 inch high resolution display.
  • Just like every other product from Fujitsu, this phone has a dustproof and waterproof chassis that is neither bigger nor thicker than comparable phones.

Features

  • The quad core smartphone boasts of a 13.1 megapixel camera on the rear with an optional fingerprint scanner for biometric security. This sensor works as a proximity sensor too and will automatically switch off the display when the phone is set on the table.
  • Utilizes the latest Android 4.0 Operating System (Ice Cream Sandwich version) and Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor for stable, blazing fast performances.
According to Fujitsu, the actual device is still months, maybe even a year away from production and is hopefully going to launch in Japan in late 2012. Fujitsu also has plans to ship it in the States. Since this is a prototype, the hardware and software configurations may change quite a bit when it sees a retail release.
